Fly me to Australia

FLY ME TO MELBOURNE!

"HOW'S IT GOING, MATE?"
When I say ‘Australia’, people think of exotic aimals like hopping kangaroos and hanging koalas on eucalyptus trees. Popular word associations are no doubt, ‘Great Barrier Reef’, ‘vineyards’, ‘aboriginal culture’, ‘Movie World’, ‘Philip Island’ and ‘Grampians’. Images of slapping waves and clear-blue waters made for snorkelling flashes across the mind almost simultaneously. Whatever images anyone has, I’m pretty sure they’ll be so immersed that they wished they were down-under right this minute.
Being a marketing student, by far the Australia marketing campaign that I can recall vividly is the song playing 'blue and yellow and pink and green', with awesome images flashing on my TV set. I swear i can sing that song! I am dying to be in Melbourne!!Well, all excitement apart, my best friend, Annabelle is studying in Melbourne. Without a doubt, that is the state that i wish to visit the most, not only to get a taste of her Aussie life there but also to immerse into the various activities the city can provide that is vastly different in Singapore. I'd give you 10 reasons!
FIRSTLY, 'Wicked' is now Melbourne. According to Belle, 'Wicked' is just wicked. Tell me, how can i not watch it. Seriously. I totally adore the Witches of Oz! Oh oh, and Billy Elliot is on now at Her Majesty's Theatre. I wanna dress up and go watch a musical in Melbourne!

SECONDLY, how about the unique Australian "religion" that I simply have to see for myself? The new season of footy just started and I HAVE TO WATCH A MATCH. I simply have to do it! I've already hear Belle sing the Collingwood anthem way too many times, i can actually sing it as well too. Beer, chips, pies, Belle and Collingwood at MCG Stadium on a sunny saturday. What else can i ask for?

THIRDLY, since I'm curbing my quenching thirst to stop online so that i can shop in Melbourne, a visit to Richmond and Bridge Road is a must! Country Road, Witchery, Supre, Dotti, Sports Girl, Cotton On, Portsman, HERE I COME!! Cashiers, go stand by, will you? (:

4. Since we're Singaporeans, we not only shop but we eat. No, we GORGE. I hear about the best pastry that can only be found in Queen Victoria Market (QVM). And since Belle lives just 5 minutes away, the perfect Sunday shall be spent having brunch and shopping at QVM, followed by visiting the Direct Factory Outlet (DFO) at Southern Cross Station, or Bridge Road! And we'll end our day by having italian on Lygon Street. Whichever really.

FIFTH ON THE LIST, the wildlife! I wanna get this close to Koalas and i seriously can't think of anywhere else i can do it except in Australia. Take a road trip, stop by the road, snap a photo with a Koala that is awake and sitting right above your head. HOW COOL IS THAT?

6. How can i miss out nature? Mornington Peninsula has the most beautiful beaches and lavender farms. We can also go strawberry picking!!! Yayy! I hear Sunny Ridge has the sweetest strawberries. OR the Great Ocean Road! That is like a must-visit since the apostles are collapsing very slowly. OR Philip Island with all the penguins coming home at dusk. Oh. did you know that once penguins find a mate, they actually stay with the mate forever.

7. Who goes to Australia and not visit a vineyard? I don't even have to talk about it? These pictures speak a thousand stomachs

8. Since my silly bf isn't buying me flowers (even on Vday, which I said ok), then I'd head to Melbourne's Royal Botanic Gardens to toss me over with their variety of Australian and international flora on the Autumn mood! Omg. Lakes and Swans! OR i'll take a boat ride down the Yarra River along the banks of the city. Well, i've never taken the duck tours in Singapore but i bet rowing a boat will be waay more fun!

9. (which i think might be silly), but its really cool - all the graffiti along the streets on Melbourne. Singapore is so clean and green, you only get to see some illegal and ugly ones. So here's one on Melbourne's streets taken by that Aussie current resident.

Last but not least, my best friend is in Melbourne and i miss her so damn much. She not coming home this year does not help at all.

Writing this makes me feel like i'm already in Melbourne. Nuffnang! Please fly me to Melbourne!!! I wanna experience the endless adventures that Melbourne has to offer with the best company on planet Earth, Belle!
